Snap-on overdentures typically require 2 to 4 implants per arch. Fixed implant bridges require 4 to 6 implants per arch. We assess your bone density and jaw structure at your consultation to determine the optimal number for your specific situation.
Yes — this is one of the biggest advantages. Because the denture is anchored to implants, you have significantly more bite force and stability. Most patients can eat a full, normal diet including foods they had to avoid with traditional dentures. Fixed implant bridges restore bite force closest to natural teeth.
It depends on the type. Snap-on overdentures can be removed by the patient for cleaning. Fixed implant bridges are permanently attached and can only be removed by a dentist. Many patients prefer the fixed option for the most natural feel, while others prefer the removable option for easier cleaning.
The process typically takes 4 to 6 months from consultation to final denture placement. After the implant posts are placed, your jawbone needs 2 to 4 months to fuse with them. During this healing period, you wear a temporary denture. Once osseointegration is complete, your final custom denture is fabricated and attached.
Many of our patients come to us after years of struggling with traditional dentures. Long-term denture wear does cause bone loss, which can affect how many implants are possible and whether bone grafting is needed. However, this does not mean implant-supported dentures are out of reach. We assess your bone density at your consultation and discuss all available options.
